Rosey Parka was initially under the umbrella of Inside Out Designs, a company that had been trading for 30 years. It was started by Paula Harward in 1979 who, along with her husband Tim, plied the residents of Brighton with stylish furniture and decorative antiques  from their shop in Kemp Town. In 1988 Julie Allsopp began working with Paula and Tim painting furniture and despatching orders of their printed paper products which were taken from beautiful, original watercolours by Enid Hayes. Around 1989 Paula began to add clothing to the eclectic mix in the shop and made her first trip to Bali inspired by one of her customers. A young girl named Emma had walked into the shop one day wearing a crochet hat and from then on clothes began to be the main focus of the business. Emma and her Javanese husband Risa began manufacturing clothing in Bali and the Inside Out Designs clothing label was born. Supported by a dedicated  and enthusiastic sales team, the Inside Out Designs collection, along with other carefully selected labels such as Avoca, Oska and Reny Derhy, soon became a hit with the customers. Julie adapted to the change and began to design  motifs that were hand painted, batiked, screen printed and embroidered onto the fabrics thus creating a unique, covetable and limited edition collection of clothing.

Inside Out Designs’s flattering, colourful clothing, mainly aimed at curvy women, was snapped up by independent retailers throughout the UK and beyond. The shop closed in 2003 but the wholesale business continued until 2009.

The wholesale business has now been happily handed over to the creative and successful clothing company Adini who are based in London. Adini are committed to keeping the spirit of Inside Out Designs alive and will be calling the reinvented label “ Inside Out Originals”. Paula will be working with Adini as a consultant and Julie will be continuing to provide the prints for the new label which should ensure the Inside Out Designs signature remains. This is very good news for all our loyal customers who have been waiting anxiously to find out where and when they can get their next Inside Out fix.

Inside Out Originals will be in your local independent store ready for Spring/Summer 2011. We will be posting a link here to Adini’s website nearer to the launch date so watch this space...

Aware of the desire to move onwards and upwards Paula and Julie created Rosey to fill the gap that existed for beautiful, stylish, water-repellent raincoats. Paula had often said that she had been looking for the perfect raincoat for 25 years and now, for the first time ever, she doesn’t mind if it rains as she knows exactly what to wear. Women everywhere need a Rosey Parka raincoat in their lives, come rain or shine.

People were always at the heart of Inside Out Designs and we have kept with this same attitude for Rosey Parka. We have been travelling back and forth to Bali for 18 years now and still have a great love for the island and the people we have met there. Our friend and head man Risa has been with us from the beginning and has become one of the most respected and loved men in his local area and beyond. Working along side Risa, are Koming (head of production), Suci (in the office and responsible for all administration), Ita (part-time help for Suci), 11 highly skilled tailors, Samsul (who is in charge of patterns), 2 cutters and Sato the runner (who sources everything we need). All in all, around 30 people and more than 30 sewing machines. We have watched as many have joined the team, married a co-worker and gone on to have children. The strong sense of community and support makes for a very happy working environment.

When times were hard after the bombings of 2002 and 2005, Risa endeavoured to keep his team busy and working. Like many other companies producing clothing in Bali we continued to supply Risa and his team with as much work as we could muster during this difficult time.

The team comprises of both Hindu and Muslim who work happily together thus providing a great example of the tolerance and acceptance which exists in Bali.  Our talented and highly skilled tailors make each Rosey Parka raincoat to a very high standard and with your help we are determined to keep them busy well into the future. Our plan is to keep working, designing and developing with our wonderful Indonesian Family.
