Fabric

The Rosey Parka raincoats are 100% nylon and are made in Indonesia. Nylon is the strongest of all man-made fabrics. Our fabric has the appearance, featherweight advantages and lustre of parachute silk. The textured fabric has been heat set to give a light reflecting scrunched effect which enhances the 7 delicious colours chosen for the raincoats. All these qualities result in a beautiful, light-as-a-feather, wind resistant fabric perfect for our loveable rainwear.

Design details - the Passionate and the Glamour raincoat

The Rosey Parka Passionate has the following decorative and thoroughly practical details:

Fuchsia Mischief

This colour is a knockout and may make you irresistible! As a member of the pink family fuchsia is a colour of creativity and is romantic, fun, bright and jazzy. It is a colour associated with good fortune and is the colour of universal love, caring, tenderness and acceptance. Wear this colour also, if you wish to release past issues. A bold powerful hue it has great mood-boosting effect.

Being a blue based colour, fuchsia works very well on those with cool undertones in their skin. It can look striking against dark hair but if you have lighter hair and a pale skin then the powerful colour can be balanced by wearing a strong lipstick or eye shadow.

Fuchsia can be worn all year round and looks equally good with tanned legs or black opaque tights. Casual wear can be brightened up by fuchsia and this colour can also be dressed up to achieve eye popping evening glamour.

Lavender Blue

This is a beautiful warm, almost purple blue and, although a bold colour, is very soft and flattering. The blue family exudes intelligence, confidence and stability. Blue is a great communicator and can be worn for comfort, to reassure and to inspire trust.

Our Lavender Blue would be perfect for blondes but also suits most hair colours including redheads and those with white or grey hair.

Wear this colour with other blues, such as denim or navy, or with white. Accent your outfit with warm pinks or yellows. This colour is endlessly wearable and versatile.

Turquoise Jewel

Rosey Parka turquoise is a clear, bright and joyous colour. Turquoise is considered a lucky and protective colour and has a deep rooted spiritual history. Wear turquoise to attract new friends, and to be lively and beautiful.

As well as being often in fashion, turquoise is very flattering for all hair colours and skin tones. It looks good worn with all the classic colours, particularly white and black, but also try it with chocolate brown, shades of green, crimson, plum, and tan. If you are a jewellery lover then turquoise is a great background for silver and coral pieces.

Turquoise is the ideal summer colour so for all those spring and summer showers our raincoat would be very handy in your handbag.

Crystal White

White contains all the colours of the spectrum. It is powerful and pure so if you want to look perfect, polished and elegant then our Crystal White may be the one for you. The light reflecting fabric of our raincoats ensures that our colours are always uplifting. White will never go out of fashion, it will always be ‘in’ and fits with all the latest trends be it futuristic, romantic, sporty or classic. Although traditionally considered a summer colour, white is now totally accepted in winter. White with gold jewellery is a classic combination so wear your Rosey Parka when you need to feel instantly dressed up. Equally, our parka style raincoats are ideal to take on holiday as versatile, casual cover-ups.

Golden Green

Choose Rosey Parka’s Golden Green for nature-loving glamour. Green is thought of as the balancer, at peace with the world, the bringer of harmony. Representative of life, growth, renewal, health and freshness green can be a very healing colour. Wear green for a calming effect on you and those around you.

Our Golden Green is a safe, practical neutral if black is a little too harsh for you. Green is particularly good for women with golden toned skin and looks stunning on redheads and people with freckles. Blondes and brunettes can also wear our green as it is soft shade and blends well with most colourings.

Wear it with denim and metallic accessories such as, gold, antique gold, bronze and silver. Our Golden Green parka will see you happily from the great outdoors in jeans and wellies to a lunch with the girls in skirt, sweater and heels.

Gunmetal Grey

Grey represents flexibility, luxury, agility and wealth. Wear it for allowing space to other people and for showing commitment and efficiency.

Our Gunmetal Grey is a very sophisticated colour and looks well on just about any skin tone. Grey can be worn to give a more youthful look and can be teamed with many other colours. Try it with baby pink or yellow or jewel colours like scarlet and emerald.

Worn with black trousers and silver accessories or with a skirt and opaque red tights, either way, grey is a classic forever.

Jet Black

It is said that black’s message cannot be read, that it is mysterious and undiscovered.  Black can be worn if you seek privacy or if you want to convey authority. On the lighter side though, it is a colour of elegance and glamour. Almost every woman has worn black at some point in her life for it’s practicality, it’s ease and it’s impact. Our shimmering Jet Black raincoats can frame the face, set off stunning jewellery and slim the profile.

Black can look good with all skin and hair colours although care should sometimes be taken when wearing the colour next to the face. If you love black and what it does for your shape but find the colour too strong, then wear a scarf of a more complimentary colour around your neck for instant uplift.

Wear the Glamour raincoat in Jet Black with an evening dress and sparkling handbag. Or, wear the Passionate with a ball gown and silver sling backs or skinny jeans and  beanie hat for casual chic.

Water - repellency

The Rosey Parka raincoats are hand finished in East Sussex at the Columbine laundry. Established for 45 years, this family run laundry applies a solution called Nikwax to each raincoat. Nikwax was developed to provide a water-repellent barrier on fabrics to keep you dry when the rain sets in. Amazingly, Nikwax doesn’t change the look or feel of the fabric. Nikwax is water-based, non-toxic and environmentally friendly so it is safe for you and for the environment. Your Rosey Parka raincoat is washable and the water-repellency is preserved if  the washing instructions are followed. To find out more about Nikwax visit www.Nikwax.com

Styling Tips

The Rosey Parka raincoat is a raincoat in disguise, it performs like a raincoat but doesn’t look like one. You can wear and travel with the raincoat anywhere. It is ideal for the cooler months and can be layered with ease due to the generous cut and lightweight fabric. Equally, it makes a perfect cover up for the warmer months as it can be packed down  into any reasonably sized handbag (mini clutches and dinky purses excepted). All Rosey Parka rainwear is exceptionally light and perfect for travelling.

Versatility is a key feature as the drawstrings of the raincoats can create many different looks, for instance the Passionate can give gathered puff ball volume over skinny jeans and dagger heels or can be loosened up for sporty chic over trousers and trainers. It can also be buttoned up and protective with jeans and gum boots or open and casual over a skirt, dress or trousers. Or, make a statement wearing the parka-style coat over a floaty summer or evening dress. The possibilities are endless.

The Glamour is special enough to double as an opera coat when worn with heels and jewellery over a ball gown. You can flit from garden to ballroom without compromising your style.

So far we haven’t found an outfit that doesn’t work with these versatile, featherweight raincoats. From the Fells to the gastro pub, Glyndebourne to Glastonbury, sailing to the school run....Rosey Parka has you beautifully covered.

Colour Tips

Rosey Parka loves colour so in our vibrant range we have Lavender Blue, Fuchsia Mischief and Turquoise Jewel. Rosey also has a more subtle side so choose from Jet Black, Gunmetal Grey, Golden Green and Crystal White.

You can say a lot with colour. It has the power of suggestion and can be creatively used as a means of expression. If you are a mood dresser you are probably in tune with your emotions and dress accordingly. Many women feel that wearing a certain colour can lift their spirits. We all respond, in some way, to colour in our environment so, when choosing your Rosey Parka raincoat, maybe give a thought to how you want to  feel and what effect you want to have on those around you. That said it is not easy to work out which colour is right for you even though there is much written on the subject. Anyone can wear any colour, it’s just about getting shade and density right but, more importantly, about wearing a colour that you love. Looking good is largely about confidence so if you feel you look good then so will others.

Colour and skin tone

Take a look at the contrast between your skin, eye and natural hair colour. In general the more contrast there is the stronger the colour you can get away with. Put very simply, warm tones suit yellow based colours and cool tones suit blue based colours.

When you try an item of clothing you can see that some shades light up your skin, while the wrong one will make you look washed out. If you love a particular colour, but it does not seem to love you, miracles can be performed by wearing a scarf of a softer shade nearer your face. This allows you to still wear that bold, bright colour that makes your heart zing. We hope that, within the Rosey Parka range, there is one, or maybe two or three, colours that you can’t live without.

Colour and hair shade, colour and skin tone, colour and healing and colour and mood are all important considerations when choosing your Rosey Parka so, with the help of our colour expert Theresa, we have put together the following as a guide.

Washing instructions and re-proofing

Please look after me…

If you look after your raincoat it will serve you well for many years. The Nixwax durable coating prevents water droplets penetrating the fabric so it is important that you maintain this coating  to stay dry. If the fabric surface gets dirty, for example while walking the dog or hiking, the dirt attracts and absorbs water therefore it is a good idea to keep your raincoat clean if possible. The durable, water-repellent coating can be refreshed by re-proofing with the appropriate Nikwax product. Nikwax is available from all good outdoor stores such as Millets, Blacks and Field and Trek. Nikwax can also be purchased on line at www.nikwax.com

To clean your raincoat use Nikwax Tech Wash only. Please do not use normal household washing powders and liquids as these destroy the water-repellent finish and leave residues which attract dirt and lead to water penetration.

Washing Instructions for Rosey Parka plain

1. Use Nikwax Tech Wash

2. Remove traces of detergents from the washing machine dispenser before adding the

Nikwax Tech Wash. Use 2 full caps (100ml) to clean 1-2 items in soft water areas and 3 full caps in hard water areas.

3. Wash separately. Using the 40 degree cycle, wash, rinse and short spin the item.

4. Drip-dry or go straight to re-proofing.

The raincoats can also be hand washed with Nikwax Tech Wash and be spot cleaned by applying Tech Wash, neat, to the stain or grease prior to washing.

Washing Instructions for Posey Parka patterned

We recommend that the patterned raincoats are hand washed, not machine washed. Hand wash with Nikwax Tech Wash only. Hand washing will be kinder on the hand painting and there should be minimal effect on the colour. However, if the garment is subject to frequent washing the colours may fade slightly and the pattern may take on a slightly distressed appearance. These signs of wear are an attractive and natural feature of these unique and hand painted items.

If you have any queries regarding washing your Rosey or Posey Parka then please do not hesitate to contact rosey@roseyparka.com

Re-proofing

Occasionally you will need to renew the waterproof coating. Nikwax recommend a wash and re-proof at least once a year to maintain durability. To re-proof your raincoat use Nikwax TX.Direct.

The raincoats are available in 2 sizes, the Rosey Parka Regular and the Rosey Parka Little Sister.

Our parka style raincoats are designed to be generous with the lightness and drape of the fabric enabling them fit and flatter all shapes and sizes, from a size 8 to a 22.

For example, and to give you some idea of fit, let’s take our models Marilyn and Jane. Marilyn (in Khaki Gold) is a size 10 and 5’6” and Jane (in Lavender Blue) is a size 18 and 5’9”. Both of these women, although different sizes and heights look great in the Regular size (see their photographs on the Passionate page). Until recently, we have only offered this one size as it has suited almost everyone. However, for those of you who are a size 8/10 or who prefer less fabric volume, the Little Sister size may be preferable (please compare the photographs of the dummies above). You will see that the Little Sister has less fabric either side of the body and the sleeves are slimmer.
